earth, as earth // empty hand // all thoughts are prey to some beast // mater
This is my exploration on organic forms created by mixing earth and water with free hand movements. Collected earth samples around the southwest region where I reside and crushed them until they reached a smooth consistency. Color variation of the soils express their different content which affects their texture and the limits of plasticity. Each form contains a space in which the hand can settle and relate. The name Empty Hand comes from the quote 'one receives with an empty hand' and offers us a playground. I invite the viewer to touch these forms, examine their textures and intervene in their place on the pedestal. January 2019 - February 2022
